Powering Sydney's Future - Muir Rd
As part of the Powering Sydney’s Future initiative, Certus Projects was engaged by Garde and Taihan to construct the Muir Road Cable Bridge, a critical component of the 20-kilometre 330kV underground cable route linking Potts Hill and Alexandria.
Led by Transgrid, the Powering Sydney’s Future project is vital to securing a reliable and affordable electricity supply to meet the growing demands of Sydney’s economy.
The Muir Road Cable Bridge was specifically designed to enable safe and efficient transmission cable crossings over active rail corridors. Construction commenced in February 2020 and was successfully completed in October 2020, two weeks ahead of schedule.
Key Features:

Specific and complex electrical and structural requirements for construction.
-
The bridge is constructed from prestressed concrete (PSC) girders with voids to allow for cabling to be incorporated into the design.
-
Sydney Trains CCB (Configuration Control Board) Process
-
Construction had several challenges based on limited space and the is positioned on a steep embankment.
-
Major crane lift planning
-
The Muir Road Cable Bridge is a 29.5m long single span bridge with a total width of 3.1m and 2.7m between kerbs.
